Women's Tennis Falls to Wesleyan
After a strong 7-2 victory against Hamilton last week, the women’s tennis team traveled to Wesleyan University on Saturday, April 10, looking to start the season 2-0.
Wesleyan, however — the reigning Little Three champion — triumphed with a score of 7-2, a role reversal from the Mammoths’ Hamilton win.
First-year Emily Sivarak ’24 was the lone Mammoth to lose in three sets, defeating Caitlin Goldberg of Wesleyan 6-4 in the first set. Goldberg bounced back, winning the second set 6-1 and the tiebreaker by a score of 10-2.
On court five, Sarah Park ’23 also put on a strong showing. Park took the first set to seven games, but eventually fell to Wesleyan’s Serim Jin 7-6, 6-4.
The two points Amherst managed to score against Wesleyan both came as a result of Jackie Bukzin ’22. After dominating the first set 6-0, Bukzin fell 7-6 in the second set. Nevertheless, Bukzin won the tiebreaker 10-5. She is now undefeated in singles play.
On the doubles side, Bukzin teamed up with first-year Julia Lendel ’24. In an extremely close match, Bukzin and Lendel defeated Wesleyan by a score of 8-7.
Next Saturday, April 17, Amherst will look to bounce back against NESCAC rival Williams College.
